There are many games developed by Nintendo for the digital video game industry, stretching into as much as 50 years since the first one, but its top-selling game of all time is unexpected.

While it is unbelievable, the best-selling game of Kyoto's renowned Japanese multimedia company is from the present; more particularly, it was released on the Switch console.

One might think that Nintendo's top game would be from its early success with the Super Mario platformer franchise or its The Legend of Zelda games, but no, it is not.

What is Nintendo's Top-Selling Game of All Time?

Nintendo's 2024 fiscal year financial report shed light on the company's top-selling game, and this revelation finally ends the debate about what the company's most-sold title of all time is.

It was recently revealed that this is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the remastered version launched on the Nintendo Switch in 2018, featuring the iconic Super Mario franchise characters and more from other Nintendo games.

It was revealed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold a total of 61.97 million units already since around six years ago, and counting.

That being said, Wii U's Mario Kart 8 sold over 8 million copies on the previous-gen console, making it a total of more than 70 million copies sold for the specific title, a well-deserved recognition for the iconic racing game.

Moreover, there are also iconic RPGs and previous platformers like Mario and The Legend of Zelda, which grew in popularity and became a worldwide hit, including its most recent release, Tears of the Kingdom

The company is also known for making the likes of Donkey KongKirbySuper Smash Bros., and more, which are still highly regarded franchises in the industry.

Thanks to its revolutionary take on gaming, compelling stories and lives, as well as innovative consoles, Nintendo's legacy is not an easy feat to outshine.

That being said, Nintendo's top-selling game is a known title from Wii U, but the specific best-selling game is the remastered Switch version, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe capturing the hearts and adrenaline-fueled minds of gamers around the world.
